All,

Sunday's ride was great. We got off to a bit of a slow start as a few of the older bikes didn't want to cooperate on a cold morning. (Mine included) Once we got started, everything went well.

I think we had 12 riders between the Brit Club and our Highlands Brothers. A nice mix of modern and antique bikes.

Tom Lacey took the lead and expanded on our previously planned route. The Sporty's odometer clocked in about 140 miles by the time I made it home. Many thanks to Tom for leading our motley crew.

We had several stops along the way to look at Civil War sites and the C&O Canal. The bright fall foliage and the beauty of the surrounding countryside warmed the spirits on a cold fall day.

We ended up near Sharpsburg for a late lunch around 3 PM. Tom picked out Bender's Tavern. It was a good choice for beer, burgers and brats. After our last stop, we headed back south in an effort to make it home before sunset.

Thanks to all who participated in Sunday's run. A good time was had by all. It was great to see everybody again.

Be watching for an announcement of our November Club Meeting.

We'll be planing our annual Freeze Your Butt Off Ride for the weekend after Thanksgiving. Hope you all can make it to our last scheduled ride for 2011.

Best Regards,

Bob Nicholas

All,

Anybody want up for a ride on Sunday? Looks like the weather is going to cooperate.

A few of us were talking about meeting at the IHOP in Leesburg around 10:00 AM for breakfast and heading out for a short ride. Here is the address for the restaurant:

980 Edwards Ferry Rd NE
Leesburg, VA 20176

Cliff suggested IHOP. Ask him how he gets his discount. Something about being a mature and dignified fellow.

I saved the Mapquest route from Peonian Springs (Just outside of Leesburg) to Charles Town I put together a couple of years ago. We never got a chance to try out this route. The loop-trip is about 60 miles and would take about 1 hour-45 minutes (without any stops). We could always spend some time at the casino or racetrack, if anybody has an interest.

Here is a link to the map. http://mapq.st/okigHw

(You will need to copy and paste it to your browser. Not sure how to make this into a one click hyperlink).

If I get time, I may drive the route on Saturday, just to make sure the roads are still in good shape.

You never know what I might show up on. It might be the 1973 Honda CB450 I just acquired. I'd like to put some miles on it just to see what parts are going to fall off.

We have 4-5 people interested in the run so far. Let me know if you think you can make it out on Sunday.

Best Regards,

Bob Nicholas
