Hello Everybody,

Thanks again for all the RSVPs. I think I've got all the responses and that we are set for a great three day weekend in the Northern Neck.

We should have 20-22 people sharing the fun, food and the ride.

We have everybody covered for a place to sleep each night.

Right now, the weather looks great Friday and Saturday.

Dinner reservations have been made at Coles Point Tavern for 6:30 PM on Friday. This was our waterfront dining spot last year. Great food and views. Its about a 30 minute bike ride from our house. We'll probably have a car or two for those who prefer four wheels instead of two.

Justin and I designed a pretty neat ride for Saturday. We'll be leaving Callao at 10AM and heading south east towards Merry Point Ferry and the town of Lively.

We have reservations for lunch at the World Famous Corner Grill in Lively. Conner, the Owner, said he is ready to serve up some great food for a bunch of old bikers.

Out local butcher is hand cutting steaks for out Saturday night cookout. Barbequed chicken will be available for those who prefer it over beef.

Justin tells me that there is a great Reggie Band playing at Coles Point on Saturday, for anybody that wants to head out after the barbeque. The rest of us will hang out at the house, just enjoying life in the Northern Neck.

Dana will be cooking up a special brunch for Sunday. Please plan on staying as long as you like on Sunday.

We are looking forward to seeing everybody on the 17th. Bring you swimming trunks if you want to go for a swim. Wilkins Creek has been wonderful for swimming this year. I'm jumping in every chance I get.

Thanks again for your RSVPs. I think this is going to be a fun event.

See you soon,

Best Regards,

Bob

The Northern Neck is Calling: Our second Annual Rivah Ride at Bob's is just around the corner.

We've already had a really good response to our initial RSVP request. Right now we have 15 folks staying at, near or around the house and barn. There are another 6 that will joining us for meals and Saturday's ride.

Note: I'll be sending out our home address and driving directions to each of the folks that RSVP. The directions will be sent to your private email addresses.

I'd appreciate having the remaining RSVPs no later than August 10th. That way we'll be able to grocery shop for the Saturday night Cookout and Sunday's Breakfast.

Rooms are going fast, so let me know as soon as possible.

We still have one bedroom available at our neighbor's house (Roger and Jeannie Williams). Dave and Jennifer will have the other guest room. The water view from the Williams' home is incredible.

Also, there is an additional sleeping space in the barn's upstair's apartment. Billy and Patricia will be someone's barn-mates for the weekend. Having another couple in the apartment would be great.

Anyone that wants to stay on the barn's ground floor should bring an air-mattress and sleeping bag. There won't be a lot of privacy, but entire barn is air conditioned, so you should be comfortable.

We have a couple of couches free in the family room and one more on the screened in porch. There is still room in the small sailboat for one or two adventurous soles. If someone wants to sleep in an easy chair, there is one in my home office.

One spare bedroom at our house will be available on Saturday night, but is spoken for on Friday.

(Information on local hotels was listed in my original email)

I'll arrange with my neighbors for extra motorcycle trailer parking. (Please stay off the grassy areas. We all have septic fields down this way).

If you have room in your truck, it might be helpful if you can bring a folding chair or two.

Here is the general plan:

Friday: Arrive in the morning or whenever you can. Feel free to take a local self-guided tour around Callao and the surrounding area. Swim off the dock, fish, Kayak, have a beer or just hang out with everybody.

We'll plan on eating out on Friday night, probably at Coles Point Tavern. It was popular watering hole with the guys last year. We'll plan on riding our bikes to Coles Point, weather permitting. There should be a few cars or trucks, as well. I'll be getting reservations for the group. I'm assuming that everybody will be dining at the restaurant. Let me know if you won't be here in time, so I can let the folks at Cole Point know.

Saturday:

Light continental breakfast at our house (juice, sweet rolls...etc.) If you need something more substantial: There are several places around town to get a hot breakfast including the Flippin Yellow Food Truck, several gas station grills and the Callao Coffee Café.

We are planning a morning ride around the northern neck. I'd like to be on the road around 10:00. If someone has a spare seat, there may be a passenger or two that wants to go on the ride.

We are planning special activity at the house for those who choose not to go on Saturday's ride.

As many of you know, Jennifer Hennessey is a very talented artist. She has graciously volunteered to give a little art class while the rest of us are on the ride. Please let me know if you are interested in Jennifer's class. We need to give her a head-count so we have the right amount of art supplies on hand.

I'll arrange for a restaurant lunch spot in Lively, Windmill Point or some other convenient restaurant about halfway through the ride. We will return to the house in the afternoon.

We'll have a evening cookout at our place, like we did last year.

Sunday Morning: Dana will be cooking up brunch for the crew.

Everybody is welcome to stay as long as you'd like on Sunday. We can take one of the boats out for a little tour. There is always swimming, kayaking and fishing available. We can take some of you over to the marina pool, if salt-water-creek swimming isn't your thing. Guest fee is $5.00 for the day.

Justin and I will be formalizing the route for Saturday's ride in the next two days. Justin and Dandridge grew up here and are familiar with all the best roads. Between the three of us, we'll come up with something fun, but not too challenging. (There aren't any mountain roads in the Northern Neck. Heck, we've only got two stoplights in all of Northumberland County).

Well that's the plan. Looking forward to seeing everybody on the 17th. I think you'll enjoy Callao.

Please RSVP before the 10th.

Thanks,

Bob

Hello Everybody,

As you know, Dana and I will hosting the Second Annual Rivah Ride down at our place in Callao, VA. The gathering is open to all current members of the Highland's Chapter. (This is a private party and is not open to non-chapter folks).

I'll be sending out additional details in the next couple of weeks. The gathering is on August 17-19th.

I will provide our address and directions when you RSVP.

We'll need a head-count for the barbecue and a count of those who plan on staying at our house or the barn apartment. I'm trying to get a couple of bedrooms at the neighbor's houses, as well.

We have two guest rooms at the house, plus two sofa's in the family room and one more on the screened in porch. There are a couple of berths in our small sailboat (which is not air conditioned).

I'm sure we can find spots for anyone that wants to tent-camp.

There are two single beds and one Queen sleeper sofa in the barn apartment. The rest of the barn is air conditioned and has finished concrete floors. There are two kitchenettes and two full bathrooms in the barn, as well. Anybody that wants to bring an air mattress and sleeping bag can stay on the first floor of the barn.

The closest motel is 6 miles away. It's the Northemberland Motel (The Nest). This an really basic motel and is somewhat dated. You can ask Don or Sue about it. They stayed there last year. It's normally pretty cheap.

The Quality in in Warsaw is 17 miles away.

Tappahannock is another 10 miles further out. They also have several hotels, but your looking at a 30-35 minute ride to our place. Here are some phone numbers:

Quality Inn Warsaw (804) 333-1700

Northemberland Motel (804) 529-6370

Please call me, send me a text or an email with your RSVP. I'll get additional info to those who plan on making the trip down to the Northern Neck.

Looking forward to your visit down to Callao.

Thanks,

Bob Nicholas
